I have found a studio and am planning to ask if I can take private lessons over the summer to castch up to my age group. I am a very determined person; if I want something I will achieve it. If I get a careeer in dance then i would like to actually be dancing-anything from a Rockette to a ballerina. I have taken about a half of a year in jazz,so while I am a beginner, I am not entirely new

Hmmm, It sounds like you have some clear cut goals, sweetie.
I'm proud of you!

I say go for it!! If it's what you really want, then don't let anything stand in your way.

As for your question, yes, you are a bit old, but that's ok. you can catch up and even advance beyond what your classmates are doing with a little perseverence and hard work. If you really have the drive to learn, then you will. You'll know if it's really what you want the first time you pull a hamstring or wake up at 2 am with a charlie horse in your calf because you worked to hard.

Don't worry it's not all that bad. Just keep plugging along, maybe some day we'll see you on TV!!

Remember to have faith and keep it!! Don't let anyone ever tell you what you are good at or not. Only you can decide what is right for you.

Love yourself and what you stand for. Stand up for what you feel is right and you will do just fine.

Lots of love to you, sweetheart!! Good luck!!

You know what everyone is going to say "of course not, your never too old!".

I would have to say that you are a little old, but you also sound determined. If this is something you want, because of the age you are starting at, you will need to work harder than you've ever worked before. Dancing as a career is not an easy thing to do.

My older sister started when she was 12 and she was on the high school dance company and has been offered a job as a dance teacher. Of course, she worked hard.

Not at all. To me, that is a really good age to start at because you know your body more so than a 3 year old. I started at 18, (21 now) advanced in hip hip, done some jazz and ballet. performed and loved it.

My hip hop instructor right now started with he was 18 as well. He had no background what so ever in dance and now he's 27, travelling all over the world to teach. it's not a matter of lateness or age, the only thing that matters is your hunger to learn more and your drive to be the best that you can be. congratulations and good luck.

Of course your not too old, but it will be much much harder. If you are looking to become a ballerina you are going to need to work extremely hard. Hip hop would be the best area for you to really get in to, tap would be ok too. Hip hop is also one of the most fun areas of dance, i think. Its much more relaxed and you dont need as much of the technique you need for ballet. You should really start taking technique classes as many and as often as possible. I started dance when i was about 11 and technique classes really helped me catch up.

common you should go for it.even i am of the same age as yours and i started learning classica dance just a month ago.I felt a litle odd in the beginning with all those small kids around me dancing better than me but now I have started feeling better. It doesn't matter even if you start doing something a little later than others.Infact it would be easier for you to grab things and you would learn faster.BEST OF LUCK.......

I say, step out there girlie and do it! I danced the majority of my life and even at my age now, I am still trying to dance any chance I get. I think your never to young nor to old to go after anything that you think you can achieve. Go, Go, Go-do your thang! Much luck to you.

Well, if you want to be in Jazz or Ballet, Yes, sadly you are too old, but if you wanna do Hip Hop or something like that, its perfect! Also, you can try tap. I did it when I was 13 and it was a blast!
