Baby massage is a great way to play with your new baby and helps you create a bond. Some mum and tot groups have lessons to show you how to do this properly. Newborn babys enjoy just seeing and hearing mum and dads silly voices and faces.

For right now you little one is only interested in eating and sleeping. When you feed him make sure that you are holding him and look right at him. This might sound silly, but some people think that it is ok to prop up a bottle and walk away. If your wife is breastfeeding you can hold him when it is time for a burping and when the diaper gets full. Newborns love to look at faces. Your baby will also love to hear your voice. You might think that I am crazy, but I used to walk around the house and tell my daughter what everything was. I even told her what everything is for. Don't worry, you never look like an idiot when you are teaching your child ( that is what I told myself). For example, I would walk into the bathroom and say "Her is the bathroom, this is where we go potty, get a shower and brush our teeth. I would point out the lights, and other fixtures. This is a really good game that lets your new little one look around, and it is also great for bonding. In a week or two he will be big enough and you can take him in a wearable carrier. This way you can take him on a walk and he can see everything.

At 2 days old he won't do much but sleep, eat, mess his diaper, and cry. He'll have a few brief moments of happy awake times where you can smile and make silly faces at him, and talk in baby talk to him. Remember he can't see very well yet, only about 8-12 inches, so bring your face close to his.

When he gets a bit older here are some things you can do:

- walk around the house and show him things (pictures on walls, lamps, anything, it's all new to him)
- show him his refection in the mirror (he won't know it's him)
- an activity mat where he lays under and there's dangling toys for him to look at (he'll be too young to play with them, but bright colors will attract his attention)
- sing him songs
- read books, even if it's just the simplest of books
- hold a toy in front of him and slowly move it around, even moving it behind an object and then making it reappear
- play music (babies like classical) and sway to the music with him
- play "itsy, bitsy spider", "this little piggie" type games
- put on silly music and dance around for him to watch you (might need to wait until he can see a little better)

He'll have a short attention span, so keep playtime short at first. Might be only 4-5 minutes. And if you notice him rubbing his eyes, or turning away from you then he's probably had enough and wants quiet time. If he gets over stimulated he's likely to cry.

Have fun and Congratulations on your new baby boy!

If he is only that old, there really isn't much to do. Just talk to him gently. Mom's naturally speak in "mommy-ease." Babies respond well to that. Speak to him frequently so that he becomes accustomed to your voice more so than he was while in the womb. Try having your spouse do the same. Babies don't see very well until they are 1-2 months old. Their vision is blurred and they can only see up to a few feet in front of them---the distance is just a few inches for a newborn. They can, however, see color--contrary to popular wives' tales. They prefer to look at objects that are of the primary colors--red,yellow and blue, but really like black and white colors and patterns for a while since they have a hard time making out contours of objects for a time. With that in mind, find some black and white toys for him to look at.

At this young age, I would suggest just rocking and singing. If you don't know any songs, make them up. I sang the "mommy is crazy about Aiden" song to my son. You can also rub his belly or back. I also danced around the house with my son when he was that age. At this age, any attention is a game and they love it. Once he gets older like 6 months, peek-a-boo will become a favorite game. With my son, he prefers the "mommy tripped over my toys and I laughed" game. And he still loves the "mommy is crazy about Aiden" song.

Let me see... There are quite a few... here is a list:

1)Feed the baby
2)Burp the baby
3)Rock the baby
4)Hold the baby
5)Watch the baby sleep
6)Change the diaper
And my personal fav (if you have a boy, although you get to play it with girls sometimes):
7)Dodge the urine stream

Seriously, a 2 day old isn't really ready to "play" yet.

Get him to follow objects with his eyes, newborns respond best to highly contrasting bright colours such as black and white or blue and yellow.
Make noises and see if he looks torwards them?
Newborns dont really do a whole lot...

Chess and arm wrestling. Brilliant, they are useless, and you always win.

At two days old, all they need to do is eat, sleep, be changed and cuddled. Being close to you is more than enough.

Cuddles and singing are always a hit!
Do you have any brightly colored objects? You can move them slowly in his line of vision and he will try to watch them.
