I am a junior in high school and I am looking at colleges. I know that I want a degree in Information Technology (or the equivalent), but I don't know if it's worth the money to go somewhere like Purdue or Rochester when I could go to a local college for much cheaper (not to mention it's closer).

I am very knowledgeable in IT and I am employed by my school as the Assistant Network Administrator, so is a degree from a prestigious school worth it? From what I can gather, it seems that a college degree only really matters before you have your first job. After that, it's all experience.

Thanks a lot for any advice. The process just seems so overwhelming.

Believe when I tell you that companies only care if you can resolve problems in the world of IT.

I know companies who hire non-degree IT personnel who know what they are doing over hiring people with IT degrees but haven't a clue.

Timely performance is key....

Go for an associates at a jr college then move on to a higher level school for your bachelors or masters.
