I received a couple of speeding tickets and took them to a lawyer in Missouri. I paid him to go to court to have them "taken care of" and received a receipt of my payment. The lawyer apparently skipped out on his duties and now i have a couple of warrants out for my arrest. Today I received a citation for a taillight being out and the officer took my liscense. Im assuming when I go to court for this I will be arrested. What are my options? Can i just pay the old fines to get rid of the warrants or is there another way I will have to go about this? Any advice from lawyers as well as citizens who have been in similar situations would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I would definitely be getting ahold of that attorney ASAP! I would make him give you his file on you and the proof that he went to court and/or plead you out. I would also hope that you kept the receipt he gave you to show the judge that you thought it was taken care of. If you were going to be arrested, it should have happened while on the traffic stop, but maybe different states have different laws about that kind of thing. I would definitely get the lawyer's butt into trouble for this ordeal.

First, call the prosecutor's office and ask to speak to a prosecutor. It'll depend where you got the tickets - inside the city, you might call the city attorney. Each state calls them different, but there should be a number on the ticket - call that number & ask how to get ahold of whoever is prosecuting your matter. Once you find this person - explain your situation and see if you can't work out a deal. Odds are, they'll work with you as long as you're willing to pay your fines.

Second, call your state's Bar Association & file a complaint against your former attorney. Failing to do anything is inexcusable & can be grounds for disbarment.

First of all........get in touch with that lawyer and ask him what's up. Secondly, you need to take care of them warrants......they'll arrest you....or maybe you can call the police offices where you got the tickets at and ask if they can be paid. Third......pay that last traffic ticket...and get things over with.
