I have never knowingly suffered from a yeast infection, and i have been sexually active for the last 8-9 years. I hear that most women have them at some time in their lives.

Is it possible that i had one without knowing - maybe i had a strand which had very mild / no visible, physical symptoms???

My last smear was about 4 years ago and admittedly nothing came up on that.

You would know it.
It's very itchy, causes redness from the scratching and you produce copious amounts of white, curdled looking discharge.

Okay I read one answer and it said you should have one once a year! That is untrue!!

You wouldn't automaticlly know but some women can tell. Depends if you know the symptoms... I never had one in my life until I went on anitbiotics and it caused one. Read up and make sure you know the symptoms. I just had severe itching and I never knew that was a symptom so when the doctor told me it was a yeast infection I was slighty shocked.

I guess there are different types of yeast infections. Go on the monistat website and read up. I actually found out that offcolored discharge is NOT a symptom and I thought it was THE MAIN symptom of them but I guess if you have a funny colored discharge it could be something more serioius.

I must ask why are you asking anyways? If you didn't have a symptom what would make you ask this?

Oh and please go get a pap done. 4 years is way too long to let that go now-a-days with all the cervical caner and problems woman have been having.

Not all yeast infections show signs and symptoms. You are in need of a Pap smear but not because of a yeast infection but jus to make sure your sexual organs are healthy. I have a pap atleast every year or every other year and I have not had a yeast infection that I am aware of since I was younger and on birth control pills. Also not everyone knows that a yeast infection can be spread by men who have multiple partners and unsafe sex. If you never have one then be greatful, you are not missing out on nothing promise you.

First, pap smears and breast exams can save your life! Something that didn't show up in one exam can actually escalate to something scary by next years exam. Don't put these off, if $$ is an issue - go to planned parenthood. About yeast infections, you would probably know. Ive never had one, but I've heard you would know right away. Apparently the burning, itching and odor get pretty bad. Search the internet for more info. But I'm pretty sure you would have known something was wrong if you have ever had one.

I wonder why you are asking the question if you have no symptoms? Although fungal infections of the vagina are common, they are far from being inevitable, so if you are well why on earth are you worried.

The direct answer to the question you asked is that although most women with fungal infections do have some symptoms, a few have low grade silent infections picked up when they are examined for smears etc, or picked up in the smear itself.

By the way it is recommended that women have routine smears no less often than 3 yearly!

The only true way to find out is by an exam, some cases you may get a odd discharge, and some pain. My ex- wife used to get the periodically. In plain English if you think something is wrong stop having sex and get in to your doctor or OB/GYN even if it's a false alarm also lately studies have found that younger woman are at an alarming rate of getting cancer in that area the best thing to do is get tested annually! Consult your doctor about the studies at this point I would be worried more about cancer cells!

Well, a pap smear is for detecting cancer of the cervix, not yeast infections. A yeast infection lets it prescense known pretty quickly, you itch like crazy, and have a white creamy discharge. the greatest thing to do for this (and prevention) is to eat plenty of yogurt. So, if you haven't had these symptoms then you haven't had a yeast infection. Also it is NOT an STD and so it wouldn't matter if you have ever been sexually active.

You don't have to have sex to get a yeast infection. I even had it on my nipples when I was breastfeeding and my daughter had it in her mouth.

It is possible you hadn't noticed as the syptoms can be mild, however you know your body better than anyone, so if you think something is wrong, go to your GP xx

I am sure you would know if you had a yeast infection (thrush). Its very itchy and you get a yeasty yellowy/green discharge (yuk). You can buy stuff from the chemist which clears it up pretty quickly and the relief is immediate,

You should notice some "cottage cheese" like discharge its not supposed to have an odor though, and or you may have some itchiness. i think those are the main yeast infection signs
