i don't know how many of the people who have answered your question are actually IN school right now. frankly, i think the school lunches are disgusting.

First of all, the amount of grease and fat in the food is revolting. if you were to tip a piece of school pizza on its side, grease would ooze off of it. No, i am not exagerating. if you pinch the hamburgers, your finger would become soggy from grease. The "fried chicken" is soggy, wet with grease, and so fatty that it tastes like you are eating plain butter with salt. the french fries feel like they were marinated in melted butter or fat, and are floppy. there is too much fat and grease in the schools hot lunches.

second of all, for the food that is "healthier", the produce is rotten. the school has salads, but the lettuce is wilted and brown. Apples, kiwis, bananas, and peaches are bruised, mushy, and gross. However, sometimes, the fruit isn't even ripe at all. i have seen bananas served in the cafeteria line that is 70% green. Another thing is, they RE-USE uneaten fruits. i swear to god, i have seen with my own eyes, janitors pick apples that have been uneated (due to the bruises and mushy parts) out of the garbage. it is just sick.

if school lunches were to get healthier, there would be less grease, fat, salt, and (hopefully) better produce. healthier foods don't include the items i have talked about. if my school had more healthy choices, there would be dancing in the lunch room.

I think they should just get rid of hamburgers and pizzas from school, because the food can just be really nasty. The pizza is burnt most of the time, and doesn't taste like pizza at all. What's the use of P.E. when they still serve fat food? Maybe it just has to be an enforced law to eat healthy. I mean, speeches or educational programs aren't doing anything. I'm a junior-higher, and the stuff that they feed us is just too tempting to refuse. In fried chicken days, the chicken is just overflowing with oil. And they give us two! The drinks aren't satisfying. Sure, they got rid of the sodas, but still. Powerade is just too tasteless...
Now, to the solution. I think it should just be forced for us to eat healthy. What else is there to do? Serve more veggies? No one really eats them. Maybe something like, salad three times a week. It's come to this point. This is the opinion of a junior high student.

I don't think it'll really do anything. If parents still feed their kids bad food at home the kid will still have bad eating habits. And they actually did this in England and parents would stand outside the school and sneak their kids junk food for lunch.

school lunches are supposed to be healthy but they're not. Pretty much all the food has fat in it and most likely is high in saturated fats. It'd be nice to have healty stuff that's actually good for you and to have mroe choices.
