I don't know when my_dixi_rect got into UCLA but I know that the average GPA of accepted students for UCLA is way higher than that. Last year as I was applying to school Berkeley and LA had average GPA's of 4.14 for incoming freshmen. It's not really what their recquirement is, it's all about who you are competing against for freshmen admission. 3.77 is not bad, but it's not stunning. The UCs round GPAs. So lets say you have a 3.8. You're going to need a good amount of extracurricular activities, not just community service. I got accepted into UCLA last year and I had a 4.1 GPA, I did marching band/musical/orchestra/tennis and academic clubs and I also volunteered at a hospital. I also got into Berkeley as well.

My advice to you is that you really write stellar essays for your personal statements. Because believe it or not, if the admissions dean can feel your passion and really get to know you in your essay, they would take you over someone who wrote horrible but has a 4.5 GPA.

If you have any questions. Please e-mail me, I would very much like to help you. Good luck!

Berkeley would be difficult to get into with that kind of GPA. I mean it is very possible "BUT" you need alot of community service to back your GPA up. UCLA's average GPA Requirements are right now @ a 3.2 so 3.77 would be like having a nobel peace prize winner attending there school lol.

My_dixi_rect smokes crack. UCLA's accepted class of 2006 had a slightly higher average weighted GPA than Cal's accepted class. Cal's current 8 nobel laureates are great, but UCLA's 5 aren't that far behind.

Basically, a 3.77 is good, but not great, and may not be enough at either university.

I'd just like to add again, my_dixi_rect is full of bs. Thanks!

For Berkeley it really matters what is on your entire application. They wouldn't just throw out your application if your GPA is below average. They look at your essays, extracurriculars, grade trends, course load, etc.

UCLA is more of a numbers school. If your numbers don't look good, then it is hard to get in.

If you get into both, definitely think about it rather than just choosing UCLA. I know some people who did that and they regret it.
