I'm 7 weeks pregnant with my 2nd one and with my first pregnancy prenatal vitamins made me sick to my stomach and plus I can't swallow it that good so my OB prescribed me something to take twice a day instead but he forgot what pills he prescribed me with my last pregnancy so now I'm having trouble taking prenatal vitamins. Is there any other vitamins I can take instead of the prenatal ones.??? PLEASE give me some answers I'm desperate.

I have a hard time taking pills that are big, swallowing them is hard. I've been ttc, and I am taking One Source Prenatal vitamins. I got at walmart, they are in a pink bottle.

They are smaller, about the size of Tylenol maybe a little smaller, and you take them twice a day. I've heard from others who got sick with other, bigger prenatal vitamins that these help.

They don't make me sick to my stomach, but I've never taken other ones. Hope this works for you!

They make prenatal vitamins that are the consistency of Tums or Rolaids, they are chewable and would work for you. I'm sorry that I can't remember the name, but surely a doctor can find the name for chewable prenatals to prescribe for you. You need then to help the baby grow and to protect yourself. If you don't have enough of certain things the baby could really suffer. Also if you don't take in enough things like calcium, your body will protect the baby first by pulling calcium from your bones to give to the baby. Until you can get the right prenatals, just take any good multivitamin with folic acid. They even have kids gummie vitamins with folic acid. Anything is better than nothing.

When you first start taking prenatal vitamins with your first baby, did you get them with a prescription or OTC? If you got the vitamins via a prescription, go back to that drug store or call them to see what they were. They should have a record of all prescriptions. Your doctor should have a record in your file as to the vitamins he prescribed for you or did he give you free samples? The prenatal vitamins are very important for you & your baby. They sell a gadget that cuts the pills in half. Maybe that would be best for you so you could take your vitamins one half at a time. Good luck to you & your new little angel!!!!

Why can't he go back to his files and pull out your medical history from your last pregnancy. Maybe you need a new doctor! If the pills are to big for you to swallow comfortably split them in half and take the halves seperately. But regardless if he can remember or not you need to have him keep changing them until you find one that agrees with you. They do sell those prenatal vitamins over the counter so maybe you could try some of those. Ask him to give you a candy coated pill--maybe that will help with swallowing them. You do need those vitamins. Those provide you and your baby with proper nurishment and all the things like folic acid your baby needs for development. They also replace what your baby takes from you that you need to stay healthy and keep the best advantage. My sister took Flintstone chewables with both of her pregnancies.

Yes, you need to take a prenatal vitamin. Prenatal vitamins are higher in folic acid and are lower in some vitamins that can be harmful to the baby, such as vitamin D and vitamin A. Note: natural sources of these vitamins are not harmful to the baby, but the chemical forms in the pill can be harmful to the baby if you take too much.

The iron is making you sick to your stomach. Ask your doctor for a pill that contains SlowFe. this is a type of iron that is released slowly so that it does not make you feel so sick. I took them with my second baby and they were fabulous. The regular ones always make me sick. If I remember the brand name of the vitamin I will post again.

Prenatal vitamins are VERY important because they include folic acid, which promotes healthy brain function in children. You can get OTC prenatal vitamins at your local pharmacy that are much less than prescription meds.
There is a fruit flavored chewable that tastes good and does not cause queasiness like most of them do.

You NEED to take prenatal vitamins. They make sure your baby is getting all the essentials. You can eat as healthily as you can but your baby still would be lacking some basic vitamins and minerals. In this case it's better to have more vitamins in your system then less vitamins.

Try taking B12 with your meals, and take a vitamin low in iron and take it at night.

If prenatal pills are making you sick to your stomach try to eat right before taking them and then take one before you go to bed. Chances are you will be asleep before you notice you're getting sick to your stomach. I put mine on my night stand that way i don't forget. You said you were having trouble swallowing them. I take a sip of water to coat my throat, then i put a little more water in my mouth and throw the pill in and tip my head back fast. It opens up the throat. Sometimes i do gag but it's usually because of water not the pill.
Good luck.

Yes it's very important! I have a friend who took Juice Plus instead of her prenatals, which is a healthy alternative, but you'll still need to make sure you take enough Iron and Calcium. Both you and your baby need it! My other friend took Flinstones chewable until she could stomach prenatals

Prenatals are best, but you probably could take 1 multivitamin and a pill for folic acid and get just as good results. Do not go without either, though.
