Muskrat milk is one of the most nutritious lactates found in North America. In studies conducted by the New Hampshire Udder Institute, findings proved that per teat muskrats supplied more vitamins A & D than ungulates. If you go back to the 70s you can find popular culture efforts to promote muskrat milk as a breakthrough in food sourcing. The Captain & Tenille very nearly had Muskrat Love breaking into the mainstream. This led to milk producers introducing rabies into the muskrat population helter-skelter and condemning rodents in general. The milkies, as they were known, came up with a brilliant televsion campaign in which they showed rabid muskrats attacking young schoolchildren. Pat Nixon would scream, "The horror, the horror," and text at the bottom of the screen ask, "Got Rats?" The rest is history.

Did you visit with Muskrat Sally and Muskrat Sam? The ones that the Captain and Tennille sang about. Were they muzzle to muzzle? I find that the milk has a musky taste to it. Since they are aquatic mammals, the milk is a bit watery. It doesn't have the same nutria ence as other kinds of milk.

I knew that. I also know that it is a 'gateway' milk and if you start on it it's only a matter of time before you find yourself diseheveled and itchy in the middle of the jungle sucking on a tiger teat.

I did know that it goes well with elephant soup, but I didn't know that it goes well with cereal....I prefer to have toast and stapler juice for breakfast.
