We do "own" it in a sense, because we "bought" it from the Saddam regime. We don't want to keep it, and are in the process of giving it independence, but in order to give it freedom, we are responsible to see that it is re-stabilized before we leave.
Since we took out Saddam, we don't want his old regime back in power, which is what "the insurgency" wants. Nor do we want an extremist Shiite regime like Iran or Hezbollah.
The vast majority of the Iraqis agree; but they are inexperienced with democracy, and need to learn how to protect themselves.

I don't have the answer, but I know our troops are really weighting hard on our hearts. Billion of dollars have been pumped into Iraq and Afghanistan. I know some of these people are innocent, but the majority of them are habitual liars. They resist our presence in Iraq and Afghan, so why are we there? Maybe oil, who knows! We want our TROOPS HOME BUSH!
