I think a better term would be a patriot. Remember it's the winners who dictate history. If the US revolutionary war had resulted in the colonies being reclaimed by the british empire, George Washington and his cohorts would have been slain as traitors. (Interestingly, many statues of George Washington can be found in France, because our revolution inspired theirs.) When the movie ends, V obviously had inspired the people to take action so I think we can safely say he's a hero.

I'd have to believe that V was a hero. Using Rousseau's Social Contract as a basis for my reasoning, government is only in place to protect its citizens. If government oversteps its boundaries in protecting its citizens, such as it did in the movie, then it is perfectly acceptable for the people to form a new government. Great Britain, as it stands right now, is a constitutional monarchy, with most of the actual powers of government being split among Parliament and the Prime Minister. The only type of government that allows for more freedom is the democracy that is enjoyed by the United States of America. The Great Britain in the movie was an oligarchy, meaning that only a few certain individuals had power, and the people had no checks or balances on their use of that power. Thus, it severely limited the people's rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." While V did use questionable methods to bring about the change he wanted, it was still, in my opinion, better than a government that treated freedom as secondary to the whims of those in power.

I personally think he's a hero; the government portrayed in the movie is very repressive and he is one of the only influences that embolden the people to change it. He doesn't just bomb places, he is smart and shows them what the government is doing to them. He is a sort of "anti-hero," because some of his methods aren't squeaky-clean good, but over all he is a hero because things come out well in the end.

Hero! He was fighting for what he believed in and what he thought was right. He thought the Gov't was corrupt etc...and just wanted it go be right. He showed the people of the country his side, and they liked it too.

Sometimes there is no difference (see current world affairs). It all depends on your perspective. Boston Tea Party: Patriots or criminals?
