Glenn Miller first used 'gay' in his lyrics. Big band music 1940's. He was gay. Get it?

A homosexual singer sang about love making him feel 'bright and gay'. Love. Man. Gay. Popular culture. The word 'gay' was an underground term for homosexuality in the 1940's but was not widely used until the '60's.

"Gay" is another term used more pointedly synonymous with (usually) a homosexual man/men; also used as a blanket term for the entire non-straight population; Lesbians, Bi-s, TGs, Queers & straights etc. This term has been been for quite some time now. I, being in my mid-fifties, gay and monogamous for 14 years (oh my how painful it is to utter 'fifty-"), do remember way too far back and it's been a blanket term since 1977 when one's being gay was no more a mental illness, but a sexual preference and NOT 'sick'.
