How would I go about copyrighting a phrase for use on t-shirts, bumper stickers, hats, etc.?

My friend and I were sitting around drinking and came up with a phrase, and I've asked some friends of mine what they thought, and said they would definitely want or buy if they saw it. So, I want to take the next step, but don't know where to start. Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I'm not in a particular business, but I would also like to one day attempt to sell this phrase.
