It depends. Most people who committ suicide are mentally ill and "not in their right mind" when they do it. They must have been terrible torrmented to do such a thing a felt there was no other way to make the suffering stop. Medication can only do so much. Some people are so bad off, they feel that suicide is the only way they will finally have peace. For those people, this is tragic and no one should call them a coward - because you don't know what kind of inner agony they might have been in.
For those of you who are posting answers that call people who committ suicide "cowards" and "selfish" think about the people on September 11th who were on fire and jumping out the windows of the World Trade Center. Where they "cowards"? were they being "selfish?" "was that a permanent end to a temporary situation?" Should they have stayed in that building to "face their problems" by burning to death? For those people their personal agony was physical - and the only way to stop the pain immediately was to jump. I'm sure they had no mental illnesses - but in a split second they made a decision to committ suicide - even though no matter what they did, they would have died anyway.
So, my point is - when someone kills themselves - for whatever reason, it is tragic. They must have been in some kind of EXTREME anguish or agony to do something like that. Yes, on 9/11 you were actually able to SEE with your own eyes what that anguish was..... but what you DO NOT have is the ability to see when someone has that SAME kind of agony on the INSIDE - mental or emotional.
Keep that in mind before you judge someone who kills themselves.

Men are more likely 2 'succeed' at suicide than women when life is too intolerable. They also use more violent methods to do themselves in, ie, a bullet in the head or jumping off a building, standing in front of a speeding freight train...
Women who attempt suicide usually take pills, or drink very heavily.
More men die from suicide than women.
It's sad when a person commits suicide & it hurts friends & family very much....more than the suicidee would realize before he does it.

Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.
There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.
While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.
Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.
We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.
With love in Christ.

Commiting suicide is an act of an easy way out of a temporary problem or situation, the act of suicide is so permanent, and it shows God the person committing suicide really doesn't trust God, or themselves to get through what God's allowed their decisions to bring them to. It's quite sad.

It is an unforgivable sin. It is also a cowards way out. The only way I can see someone committing suicide would be if he/she was in horrible pain and could not bare it any more.

Are you crying out for help? Because your username has emo in it, and people usually make it known before the action takes place.....Please get help...Too many people love you, etc, etc. If you are not going to commit suicide, then I think that it is a deep excommunication factor.

Mentally ill people see it as an "escape" from either a harsh real world or the one in their heads. I believe these people felt so horrible it looked like the only way out to them. Many are already ill with a horrible physical condition, victims of sexual and/or physical abuse, drug addicts, and extremely clinically depressed people. A scary number of suicidal deaths occur in children under the age of 18. We should feel sorry for them..can you imagine a feeling of hopelessness like that?

It is bad of course!
But many people are driven to suicide. =(
I wouldn't want to be the person to find the body, that's for sure.
And it hurts the victim's family and friends.
Suicide shouldn't be an option.

Weak.
A person should have enough inner character to face their problems and work through them in a responsible manner. The future will be bright if you only give it a chance.
