Assuming you have a legal copy of XP, from power off, put the XP CD in the CD drive and it will install a fresh copy where linux was previously installed.

Many Linux installers can be tricky, Try Kubuntu, it installs as a live CD, then you can choose to install it on your hard drive from the desktop and if you choose, you can keep XP on your PC too (dual boot).

Presumably you mean to install Windows over a Linux OS. All you have to do is install Windows, it will overwrite any other OS you have. I do not know about installation errors, get in touch with an IT professional. When you have Windows installed, you can install Linux by the side of it in a "dual boot" mode. I can recommend Suse Linux for this. I hope this helps.

If you have two drives it's easy, unplug your Linux drive, remember to adjust master slave settings if necessary, install your XP. When ready connect the other drive again.
Your bios has a key to access the boot menu, find what it is, mind some only give you a couple of seconds to press the key combination. So really it is better to keep Linux as your main boot disc and put an entry in your Grub or Lilo to the Windows boot.

Get one of the UBUNTU versions they are easy to install and use. If you decide to install LINUX, do a dual boot with XP.

1) Always back up your data before making changes to your
computer.

2) Resize your XP partition, leaving a minimum of 5GB for
your LINUX OS.

3) Install your LINUX OS
