as someone who served in the military, i feel that the "War on terror" isnt something that can be won. you cant fight an idea, there will always be someone else who'll use terror as a weapon.
the way the war has been handled is complete BULL. cheney and bush are full of crap. its a dishonor to send these men to war without telling them the real reasons they're there. tell them "its an oil thing", and tell them that Iraq is F'ed up and that its our fault for going in there the way we did. they deserve to be told the truth. they're soldiers, they made a choice, they'll back it up, but do them the courtesy of telling them the truth.

I would love to see my brothers in arms be able to come home as soon as possible. Sadly, the Iraqis just aren't getting up to speed fast enough. Because of this, I don't think it's a matter of "should" we pull out, it's more "can" we pull out.
Of course we SHOULD stop the killing of our soldiers. But the simple fact of the matter is we CAN'T leave until the job is done.
Our mission in Iraq right now is to train the Iraqi Securit Forces so that they are CAPABLE of defending themselves. The question that is left unanswered is if they are going to succeed in doing this.
I hear people complaining about Iraq falling into a civil war. This very well may be true but I can't think of one modern country that’s never had a civil war, a military coup or an overthrowing of a ruler. If there are countries that have accomplished this I guarantee they are far less numerous than the alternative, and most likely far less effective in the Global sense of the word.
I think that the war on terror is a necessary war. There are still those of us who haven't forgotten the good men and women we lost on 9/11 and all of our brave military members that have died for our protection and freedom before and since then.
I feel that the war on terror doesn't get a fair shake in the news because the president who is commanding it is very unpopular with the mainstream American media. There are just as many good news stories about what the U.S. and Coalition forces have done in Iraq, yet all we see is "car bomb" this and "atrocity" that.
I can't tell you for certain that we will accomplish our mission in Iraq, or the war on terror for that matter. But I can tell you a few other things. The Brits being able to pull out because of the great progress they've made is a victory in the war on terror, and it's also very promising and encouraging. We are killing hundreds of terrorist a day in an environment where they choose to engage us. Normally terrorist do not do this, that's what makes them so damned difficult to combat, their elusiveness. If we can use this as "front line" then so be it. I'd rather have them being killed there and attacking our brave soldiers than coming to America, Britain, Australia or any other country and attacking our citizens.
Regardless of how we feel on the issue of Iraq we can not just dismiss the graveness of the consequences of leaving Iraq before the battle is won. We need to stop our squabbling over who was right and wrong and get the job done. Then the time will come to analyze our 20/20 hindsight.

If they pull out now the terrorist left will undo everything that has been done. The Corrupt politicians, undersecretaries, and lawmakers that are invovled in terrorism will further corrupt the government trying to develop. They would terrorize people until their children no longer went to school for fear of mortars and bombings. Women would be right back to being nothing but child reproduction and girls would not be allowed to have any type of education at all. Everyday muslim men, women, and children would die thanks to mortars, crossfire, bombs, and anything else the terrorists decided to do. The good people there that want to have a good life for their families but haven't the money to leave or want to keep their family connected to the true roots of their homeland would be forced back into silence for fear of what speaking up would bring to them. And every single person who has been shot, who has suffered mentally, who has died, who has lost a loved one, who has lost a limb, or simply lost a part of their soul would have sacrified for nothing. That is time in a frightening and dangerous place away from their spouses, their children, their siblings, their parents, all for nothing. Men would have missed the birth of their first born child for nothing. Women would have waited by the phone in tears each time the news spoke of soldiers dying while staring at the photo of their three kids for nothing.

Historically, all insurgencies can be put down. Insurgencies can't actually win in the long run and only win through attrition.
That's Iraq and Afghanistan.
The global war on terror is more complex.
The only reason that terror works is because of our media. People can't be afraid of people they've never heard of.
In WW2, the Japanese sent rice paper balloons filled with explosives over the pacific onto U.S. shores. They actually managed to kill a few people with them. The press cooperated with the government and didn't report it till after the war. As a result, the Japanese thought it was a failure and discontinued the effort.
Lesson learned? Apparently not.

It will get worse not better, Americans will get the blame (which I am sorry to say, but they should for there was no reason to invade in the first place, Iraq was never a threat to the USA). 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq the some of the people of Iraq just don,t want us there, it would only be the same if they had come to the USA and tried to tell us how to run our country, we would do exactly the same. it will take a lot of courage for a President to say enough is enough, lets pull out, but that is what eventually will happen. We pulled out of Vietnam, we can do it in Iraq and the sooner the better. Bush and congress were wrong, I feel sorry for the sorrow and devastation that America has brought to the people of Iraq and their country, Saddam Hussein was a bad apple, but what we have created is no better. and I feel sorry for all the US soldiers who have died or have been badly wounded because of this unnecessary war. Because of the lies and ineptitude of GW Bush.

As an American I must tell you that I believe that our president's course of action in Iraq is worthless and will cost more American lives. I would pull out and let the Iraqis solve their own problems. They are killing each other with car bombs, personal bombing, etc. so why should we become involved? They have been killing one another for centuries and they will not stop now. They do not want democracy because they don't know to do with it. They have always been led by a Sheik or whatever and they will not change into a new kind of government.

In spite of what you may read on Yahoo (lot of garbage here), all of the polls show 67% of Americans are against the war and want our troops to come home now.
Mr. Bush, our current president, has been described by political and military professionals as "the most dangerous and the worst" president in our history. He came into office through his lies, invaded Iraq by concocting lies and is still lying. We, the people of the United States, are being ruled by a madman.
In November of 2006, we changed our Congress and threw many of Bush supporters out. Our new Congress, controlled by our Democratic Party, is following the Constitutional process to insist Mr. Bush put and end to the war and bring our young soldiers home, or they will cut funding for the war - just as we did during the Vietnam mess. Constitutional law can and will be used to impeach him if necessary and remove him from office or make him resign - just like President Nixon did.
My fellow citizens made a serious error by being taken in by Bush, Vice President Cheney and others. We will be paying dearly for it for generations. But, we are a strong country and will survive it.
Thanks for asking. And, good luck to you all in Aussieland.

I agree with what we're doing and in no way do I want our people to give up and pull our troops out. I live in a military town, we are retired military, our son is a pilot getting ready for his second tour over there and our son in law is getting ready to go back for his second tour as well and if you talk to any GI they will say the same thing, they want to finish the job they started. This is what they have trained for and this is what they want to do.

We should stand and fight no matter what it takes. And most importantly we should forbid congress from trying to run this war. It isn't their job. The Constitution gives that power only to the Commander in Chief....the president!
