according to the book Animal Wisdom Harness the Poer of Animals to Liberate Your Spirit written by Susie Green on page # 65 the
Dragonfly/Damselfly warm love protecting what is yours :
Dragonfly, iridescent gossamer - winged being, sparkles vividly in hazy sunlight reflected from lucent pools and streams. Did this mighty Dragon of the Skies ever walk the earth and sorch it with her fire ? Journey to her world and seek sincerely of her wisdom for she can surely tell you tales of ancient wonders far beyond the powers of dreams. On this orb at least Dragonfly moves between the realms of water and air, symbolic of the deep pull of emotion and the rational clarity of intellect. Her larvae develop in lakes, marshes, and rivers: the speed of their transformation to glittering, colorful maturity is dependent upon the surrounding warmth and richness of the food supply. Damselfly larvae in the north take two years to emerge, but in the balmy, bountiful south, just four months. Once in the air, Dragonfly is a decisive, soaring predator. Dining on Frog, Spider, Bee, and Termite, Dragonfly zealously protects the terrority where his mate will deposit her eggs.
If Dragonfly has danced into your life, it is time to consider the balance between your emotional well - being and your rationality. All creatures, children, and romantic relationships that are nourished with warm emotion and care flourish. Your rational mind may say that it is ludicrous to waste time walking in the woods at twilight with your partner when you need to do the ironing, but your rational mind is wrong. Without the positive expression of love your relationship will shrivel and, like Damselfly's larvae stranded in cold icy water, die. The laundry, on the other hand, will still be there tomorrow.
Perhaps your childhood was unhappy, forcing you to hide your emotions behind an intellectual facade. Dragonfly counsels that the time has come to examine those issues, even taking professional assistance if necessary, and let light and color back into your life.
Your emotional mindset may tell you that it is right to play the doormat, acceding to every unreasonable whim your partner voices, and always to put them first. Like Dragonfly patrolling his terrority, you must always protect yourself appropriately, and strive for balance at all times. Equilibrium, then, is everything. This is the wisdom of Dragonfly.
