I have to assume that he has been given his or her rights and actually charged with a crime if your question pertains to a crime.

1) right to an attorney, provided to him if he can't afford one.
2) right to face his accuser and or witnesses against him
3) right to see evidence against him.
4) right to a speedy trial
5) can only be held incarcerated for a certain period of time without being arraigned (formerly) charged. Time period varies from state to state.
6) right to a jury trial. 10 to 12 man juries based on charges and state you reside in.
