Nothing higher than a ninth grade reading level. I've already read the Harry Potter series, the Inheritance series, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
*Also, are the Private series by Kate Brian and the Nannies by Melody Meyer good?

Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen by Tamora Pierce are two good ones. Inkheart and Inkspell by Cornelia Funke are wonderful. They're about a girl who can read herself and other people into books. There is also "A Wrinkle in Time". Many people love this one but it didn't really catch my attention. Lastly there is the Giver and Gathering Blue both by Lois Lowery. It takes place in an alternate universe where everything is assigned and no one gets to make their own choices.

And then there's the Harry Potter series and Eragon is really good. You should also take a look at Double Helix.

I would suggest the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. Technically, I've only read the first book THE AMULET OF SAMARKAND myself...but the others are eagerly waiting to be read as soon as I've got time. The series is great so far, I was hooked almost immediately.
Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor
Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld (Uglies, Pretties, Specials)
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (also New Moon)
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (also Rebel Angels)
Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix (Among the Hidden, Among the Imposters, Among the Betrayed, Among the Barons, Among the Brave, Among the Enemies, Among the Free)

And I can't believe I almost forgot this...
Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
Enna Burning by Shannon Hale
River Secrets by Shannon Hale
Princess Acadamy by Shannon Hale
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
Fairest by Gail Carson Levine
Mira, Mirror by Mette Harrison

Eragon (and Sequels)
Series of Unfortunate Events
The Giver (and Sequels)
The Hobbit
Things Not Seen
The Warriors Series (if you like cats)
Things like that or you could wait with me for the next Harry Potter book to come out! Happy reading and I hope you like whatever you choose.

When I was 13, I was into the Agatha Christie Mysteries, Sherlock Holmes, A Wrinkle in Time... and other Mystery books. I don't remember if I got into the Nancy Drew Series of books earlier than 13 or not...

Good reading, hon! --De

Sarah Dessen books! Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, Pendragon books by D.J. MacHale, Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares, I'd Tell You I Love you but then I'd Have to Kill you by Allie Carter (great book, waiting for the sequel!) the Alex Rider books by Anthony Horowitz.
Those are all very good books. I've enjoyed them all!
