I'm interested in knowing if adults with Down Syndrome can be self-sufficient and what type of jobs they have. I know someone who has a child with mild down syndrome and would like to offer support.

I think it depends on the severity of the mental retardation. She could probably find a job through some type of group(community care) and could probably live independantly but would need to be checked up on.

I had a friend who had DS. I met her when I worked at a grocery store and she was a bagger (one of the best I've seen). She lived by herself but she did have help getting to and from work. Hopefully I am of some help.
