We have been very close friends for about 2 years now. we used to do a lot of drugs when we first met. after a while i quit no problem. he struggled but did pretty good, for a while. i helped him through this the whole time. when i was around he would stay strong. but if i left he would slip. now he is slipping too much and i don't know what else to do to keep him from going down that road again. he has gained so much like a great job and a house, bike, and car all his own. if he goes down that road he will loose eveything and he has come too far...

He has to want it - you can't make him do anything

You are leading by example and showing your concern for him. Just continue to be the true friend that you are by being honest that you see his behavior changing for the worst again and that you want to help. Encourage him to enter a recovery support group with you, such as NA (find a group by location here: http://portaltools.na.org/portaltools/MeetingLoc/ ).

If he has family or a girlfriend, encourage them to learn what they can do to stop enabling him. Again, support groups for families of addicts are helpful. Nar-Anon (find a group by location here: http://nar-anon.org/naranongroups.htm )

hiya I'm 19 and in a similar situation with my boyfriend. If he keeps doing it while you are not there it probably means he doesn't actually want to quit yet. Mayby the nice house, car etc is from selling the drugs? and in that case, hes not going to want to stop. you need to find out what he wants. if he genuinely wants to quit then just keep him really busy and maby seek medical help? if he says he doesn't want to quit, and he seems to be highly addictive then you need to sit down and explain to him what could lose and explain to him all the health problems. MAKE HIM WANT TO QUIT! x

Try to get him to go to AA or NA it will be listed in the Phone book also go with him so he doesn't have to go alone. My mother is a part of AA and some of her friends are or were addicted to coke and they have become a team to stay sober.
