Have a competent astrologer check aspects to the midheaven (any aspect to that happens to your father as well) or ic (4th) or 7th house , or first (Ascendant). 1 degree equals four minutes in the birthchart. Did you move at such and such an age, did you have a sibling born at a certain age, did your grandmother or grandfather die at a certain age in your life? You can adjust according to significant life events and that will give you the correct ascendant. Example, you fell down and got stitches in your head at the age of 3. So you can then adjust and calculate your ascendant accurately. You know you had a mars aspect to your ascendant at the age of 3. Did your dad get a great job promotion when you were 10? You look to midheaven/saturn/ planets in Capricorn/ and sun aspects. It's called rectification of the birth/natal chart. These are just general examples to give you an idea. It's really not all that difficult ; just time consuming. But yes, knowing the exact degree on the ascendant is important. 6 degrees Aquarius rising is a heck of a lot different thqn 14 degress aquarius rising.
And Nek you're absolutely right; the planets would change houses. Noon to 2 pm is 9th house, 2 to 4 is 8th house. 4 to 6 is 7th house. 6 to 8 is 5th house. etc. Occasionally, DST may change the sun house position depending on degree, date, time long and lat. And I beg to differ, but Satun in the 12th is NOT always the sign of a depressed person. Much depends on aspects, etc. It more often gives a spiritual bent to the mind or priest/nun or very religious parent in the family, or a doctor/nurse that can sense what is happening to their patient before they express it. People that work with handicapped people requiring great patience will have this placement. People that work in prisons as counselors, priests will have this placement. It takes more than saturn in the 12th or Capricorn on the 12th to indicate depression in the natal chart. So ignore the astrologer wannabes. Saturn in the 12th could also indicate a very gifted psychic who puts their talents to practical use, or a gifted dedicated musician, even though he may be handicapped. Wasn't Beethoven deaf?
Saturn there can be something as simple (not that it's simple if it happens to you) as having a co-worker or boss who is deceptive, or steals. You may deserve a promotion, but because of their deviousness, you get overlooked, or they try to blame you. So never trust your boss or coworkers with this placement (if Saturn there has hard adpects). If easy aspects, that's a whole different story.

Even though I've only been able to accurately - or within a couple degrees - do this for someone only once... this person didn't believe in astrology and so he set out to test me, as well as to find more about himself, by letting me find his time of birth astrologically, while he himself asked his mother what time he was born. I was about 15 minutes off, which isn't that bad, since a day has 24 hours and 1440 minutes. I had the right ascendant and ALL the planets were in the right house.

But I did it in a least common way. Generally, astrologers would be able to find out ascendants, and exact times of birth by looking at past events, and counting back from that. That method, I personally think, is very time consuming and can't be so accurate at all! A better method would be, to know the person very well - I knew that man back then better than he thought... - and then place the planets in the chart in the right house to fit that person's personality. Also you'll need to look at the houses themselves, see if they're in the right sign that influences the house and the planets in it.
If you don't know a person well enough, I'd suggest to go for the most obvious characteristics... for example, Saturn in the 12th house makes for a chronically depressed person. A person with leo rising will have sun as ruling planet (okay, okay... luminary!) and will be basically consumed by their ego... things like that, watch out for them.
First impressions are usually very important, since the ascendant (or the rising) represents how the world sees us, how we come off as. That would help to accurately pin point your ascendant as well as your exact time of birth.

Note that your exact time of birth can vary from the time of birth that your parents remember or the time of birth which is written down on your birth certificate. I've had to alter my chart with a couple of minutes to come to my exact time of birth, which is nearer to 9 am than my birth cert would like me to think.

If you know date, place of birth it is possible to prepare
rasi, navamsa charts. But for finding ascendant time of birth is needed.Remember that the position of planets in each rasi is independent of birth time.Once this is found,
by trying each ascendant signs, checking it with current, past happenings correct ascendant can be known.

My birthtime is not on my birth certificate. The state i was born in does not list them. so i had to ask my mother. she didnt know just that it was "just before sunrise". so i found out what time the sunrise was on teh day i was born. I cant remember but it was like 6:30am. So i know i was born between 5 and 6:15am. That time differnce changes the house my venus is in but in 2n house sounds more like me than venus in 3rd house. You can also read about ascendants(remember this is how the world sees you not necessarily how you see yourself) on any astrology website.

Depending on how old you are, your birthtime will be on the plastic "bracelet" the hospital put on your wrist. Also, perhaps, try the hospital you were born at. Also, I think you may be able to get a copy of your birth certificate (look online for this).

there is no way. U could however just read the characteristics of each sign and physical traits they offer and from there just decide which one u think u are. Are you outgoing or shy at first? If outgoing u are a masculine sign, if shy then a feminine one. There, now it's narrowed down to six signs.

It absolutely does not matter. Trust me!
It matters as much as whether Zeus and Jupiter knew each other...
