lets say that the person you are latching onto via wireless has spyware riding around on their computer/internet. are you going to get that same spyware that they have? i'm curious. i have a wireless but i'm leary of using it cos the word "unsecured" network just freaks me out. haha, any info you may have or have experienced yourself would help me in deciding whether to succumb to comcast or stick with the on campus computers! heh. thanks in advance to all who respond!

Atilla, you cannot I repeat cannot get adware, spyware, malware or a virus from connecting to a unsecured network and cruisin the net.

Now heres the catch if your sharing files. or opening shared files that are being stored on the unsecured network then you are opening yourself up whatever malware, spyware, adware, or viruses might be contained in those files. But just to get online no your perfectly safe. However I would have some kind of spyware and antivirus programs on your laptop regardless of if your connecting to a secured or unsecured network.

Yes, you can get trojans and spyware. It's a good idea to have spyware software on your PC. That's all you really need and also a good anti-virus program. I use Ad-Aware, Norton Utilities and I have a secure router. You can never be too cautious.
