Which ability would you prefer - write a symphony for a full orchestra or paint a great portrait?

mmm...well although portraits are not perhaps my thing...i am an artist...and a very impassioned and messy one too...id love to be painting at the same time as someone was composing close by...feeling the energy from that person and them feeling yours...feeding each others passion for their art...mmmmmmmm...that drives me nuts...in a very good way...;0)

I think I would prefer the ability to paint a great portrait it is easier to sell so I can make some money and buy more paints and paper!

Those are both admirable goals. I love music, but I think I'd opt for the portrait as well. I feel sort of bad for modern composers, it must be frustrating to acieve success when
1) you need to pay an orchestra just to actually hear your work realized
2) even then your efforts will never compare to the masters. I guess there's always film scores or Broadway.
No guarentee you'll ever be successful painting either, but the barriers are lower and much less expensive. Good question.
