I am looking into getting a potbellied pig. I live on a farm, so they would have a huge field to run around in. I know very little about pigs, so I was wondering if I could keep them in a barn? Would it get too cold in there for them? It gets really clod during the winter. How much indoor room would they need? I looked online, but it kept giving me info on indoor pigs. I don't want them inside.

Also, anything I should know about keeping pigs? Thanks!

All I can say is do plenty of research. They are a lot more work than you'd think.

Pigs do great in barns and outside. The cold weather you will need to bed the pen with good warm bedding, like straw and hay.The size of the pen will depend on the size of the pig. Some potbellied pigs can be up to 100 pounds. I would give it a pen the size of your bathroom. Do not over feed your pig and give it a lot of clean water. It should have some shade in the Summer. Good Luck.

Hey Potbellied pigs make ace pets! They will be fine in ur pen in the winter, plenty of straw to snuggle up in and keep warm will keep them fat and happy. The dont need a massive amount of space, alought the more space you can give them the happier they will be. Butfor sleeping just enough for them to turn round, lie down and stretch there legs comptably will keep them happy.

This website should be very useful to you, it has a more detailed info on outdoor housing and diets for pigs.

Hope this helps u!!!

They stay outside in a sty. Don't bring them inside. They are still pigs and are used as food everywhere except in America by people who mistakenly think they will stay small and "lovable." They will get to be up to 300 pounds. The males must be castrated or the smell will drive you out of your mind and will also make them turn mean. The tusks have to be cut by a vet when they get 2-3 years old. That's a charge of around $120-$150 if you can get one to do it for you.

easily, potbellied pigs are very dependable and thrilling to be round besides. although, they're quite puzzling to preserve (you better no longer be squemish). yet compared to a canine, the canine wins fingers down. they're straight forward to take care of and also very solid friends.
