I have an older Craftman garage door opener; model 139-53647STR1. It just stopped working from the remote. It still works from the wall switch in the garage BUT the small light on the wall switch is constantly flickering, which can't be good. The sensors near the floor by the door seem to be fine; they have constant steady light. I have tried replacing the battery in the remote; no improvement; also tried resetting by unplugging / plugging in unit a couple of times; no luck. It is an old unit with we didn't inherit a manual with the house. Suggestions? thanks

is your button on wall doorbell style or does it have three buttons? If it has three buttons press and hold the button that says lock for five to ten seconds and release. the light shouuld go solid and remote should work. What you are describing is lockout mode which "locks out" all remote signals to opener.

You can tune the receiver to the remote but you need the instructions for this. I believe someone already answered this above me.
What I did, was to buy another receiver and installed that instead of the old one. That way, I now have the rolling code for better security. I think it was about 100 bucks for the receiver and the extra remotes. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, then call a garage door repair place and they can hook it up for you.

You may have to retrain the remote. The instruction for doing this can usually be obtained from the manufacturer. Go to the craftsman web site and see if you can find it. Also, quite often the retraining instructions are on the inside of the housing. Failing all that, you might want to check with your neighbours. If you live in a sub-division, there is a good chance that someone else may have one the same. Also, craftsman is made by sears, so if you have a sears store in your local, check them out.

remove the cover from the light. On the opener there will be a reset button. ( maybe labeled something else) press it and for about 5 seconds. Release the button and the led should start flashing now press the buttons on every remote that will operate the opener one at a time. When finished press the reset button again quickly this time. These remotes are variably encoded and change security codes when they are reset ie. changing the battery
