Go to start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > when programs come up, highlight the bar where Norton is, then on the far right of the same bar, click on "remove", and from experience I know the program will resist this right to its last gasp, because it is made to almost control your computer. When it's gone, download ( FREE) AVG
Free Edition 7.5 anti virus from ' Grisoft.com '. It is really good & I set it to get daily updates on start-up( so I don't forget) & I do a weekly scan.
I have been virus free for 3 yrs. But, since AVG free edition has no firewall, get for free " Windows Defender" from Windows Market Place's security section. It gets updates in the night(Iset it that way). For anti-spyware , you can get for free, SpyBot Search & Destroy 1.4 . When that's downloaded, find " immunize", click on that, then do a full scan. Anythingit finds will list itself out, then you can click on ' fix the problem ", and good bye spyware. These 3 FREE programs have kept my PC really clean, but you need to update them & do scans on them. Hope this wasn't too confusing. Good luck !
