I want to download IE7, but when doing so I'm prompted to disable my anti-virus. Surely this isn't safe?

HI,

Go to this url and manually download IE7 and install it.
No need to Turn off Antivirus Software. And you should'nt do that under any stage while you download any stuff from the internet.

Url to download IE 7 :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9AE91EBE-3385-447C-8A30-081805B2F90B&displaylang=en

Hope this helps you out :)

Disabling anti virus is a standard proceedure when installing anything, since the AV might think that the changes are not allowed and so interfere and therefore bork the install. Just turn it off for 5 minutes, install, then turn it back on.

It's nothing to worry about. You most definitely SHOULD upgrade, even if you're not going to use IE, as it is a security improvement (and everything else) on 6, so anytime you need to use it, it will be better.

Quick note: - you should always turn AV off to install, but only AFTER you've scanned the files. Don't turn AV off to download it, just to install it.

Hi, I agree with those that are saying for you to use Firefox.
It's a better interface, it's easier to use, it's faster, and more importantly it's safer to use.
You could also use Opera.
When installing IE7 it should not tell you to disable your antivirus, but to just close open applications. Perhaps you had a virus scan running.

I didn't disable my anti virus when downloading it and it downloaded ok. I prefer to use Mozilla Firefox anyway - IE7 has caused me nothing but problems since downloading it.

You're absolutely right. This isn't safe. Check out the following article from the US Computer Readiness Team, particularly the section titled "Motivating Factors"

http://www.us-cert.gov/reading_room/before_you_plug_in.html

The suggestion that attack can happen within minutes of connection is very real and some sources and statistics are quoting this as seconds rather than minutes.

Bottom line: Do not disable your antivirus whilst on line!

IE 7 can be a bit of a trial on some/most PCs.
If you do download it only use Microsoft and do not disable your Anti-Virus is my humble advice
Try this browser instead - Secure/Massive functionality/and fastest of them all.
