Could be for a couple of reasons:
1. they are just anti-social by nature. they don't like talking to people or being around people. They just like to be by themselves and have peace and quiet
2. They have social phobia - a fear of other people and being in a social situation
3. They are shy and give off the wrong vibes that other people mistake for "oh - she doesn't like me." or "wow, she's very rude."
4. They are miserable, rotten people who people can't stand to be around.

Maybe because they are hard to get along with, I know a few people like that. They complain and are so depressed and they wonder why they don't have any friends. I don't even bother with them and I like everyone. =)

for lots of different reasons, some are mean and some are too shy or messed up in the head.
