Ok so i just got my new hamster about 3 weeks ago or so, Hes being doing great and eating properly. So far i've been getting his exercise ball, He walks in it, then i take it and put it next to my hand to he can go to my hand, He does it and doesnt bite me at all, Which has been working great. But i want to be able to pick him up Or just let him walk into my hand while hes on his cage. I just tryed letting him walk in my hand 5 minutes ago, And he bites it[Hard]lol. The only way he doesnt bite is when i put him in his axercise ball and all that stuff i said above. So can someone help me with this? I just want to learn to tame him so that he will just walk into my hand and not bite it andstead of walk in it, So somone please. Thanks in advance!

Okay so once he is in your hand he doesn't bite correct? Well then what you need to do is put him into your hand. Obviously you have a wire cage, possibly with plastic on the bottom. Here is how I trainded my hamster Scrat out of just the same bitting thing.

1) Open up the cage door. Your hamster will probably walk onto the cage door. Make sure he doesn't bolt for the exit in your room or wherever, it will be a long look to find him.

2) Gently pick him up by the back of the neck, at the scruff. This is not inhumane and it is not cruel as some people will say. It is the natural way that all mother mammals carry young unless they have hands.

3) Place him in the palm of your hand. After a few times of doing this he will start to walk onto your hand himself. Also for not bitting you reward him. Most petstores sell hamster treats. My hamster likes the yogurt drops. Also you could give him a bit of boiled egg.

Hope this helps.

Well it depends on the type of hamster you have.

dwarf hamsters dont like to be handled as much. esp. Robo dwarfs. They are very fast and get freaked easily.

if you have a teddy bear hamster/ anyother big hamster they love to be held soo...just put your hand in the cage. it might take a couple of min. to let him smell you. he might back away and come back. i suggest doing this a couple of times a day, then when he starts walking on your hand pick him up just a couple of inches. do this for a couple of days until he gets used to it.

If this doesnt help look up the type of hamster you have on google. you should get ALOT of help there

best of luck!
