Yes, today. As soon as possible. A few horses are begining to shed already which means the new coats are coming in or just getting ready to start depending on your horse.

In Australia, we clip at any time of year, spring, summer, autumn or winter. After all, that's why they invented horse rugs, didn't they?!

Just make sure you clip at least a month before your first show to give the new coat time to start to come through and look more "natural", or you will have a horrible, dull coat.

If you are worried about it being too cold, and the horse is an eventer or pleasure horse (not a show horse), perhaps it would be better to give him a trace clip (only the areas that sweat a lot), or not clipping at all?

I live in south-central WI and we always clip in Feb. or Mar. Depending on when the first show is.

Today. The rule of thumb is "mid february", and I don't think how far north you are affects it, since your days start getting longer at the same time as ours do
