That all depends on what you believe.

I don't take any verse from the Bible at face value. It has been mistranslated, mishandled and re-mistranslated and misunderstood, re-re-mistranslated and misused for centuries.

How can anyone look at any text in the Bible and say, with any degree of certainty, "This is what was said" or "This is what happened?" You just can't.

Absolutely. Read Matthew 10:32 "Everyone, then, that confesses union with me before men, I will also confess union with him before my Father who is in the heavens; But whoever disowns me before men, I will also disown him before my Father who is in the heavens." Also read Roman 10:10 "For with the heart one exercises faith for righteousness, but with the mouth one makes public declaration for salvation."
