With a HS diploma you can go right into LPN school for 18 months. RN is 3 years. You might have to take some classes to get ready for it but probably not. Definitely don't have to do the 4 year college thing.

I'm a registered nurse. If you want a BSN degree (bachelors in Science of Nursing) ..that is four years. You can also be a registered nurse after two years...receiving an ADN degree. (Associate degree in Nursing). LPN (Licensed practical nurse) takes one year. Some states, North Dakota for one, will only hire BSN R.N.s. If you're interested in teaching someday, or going on for Nurse Practitioner, BSN is also the way to go. Hope this has been helpful.

In answer to your question, there a lot of good community colleges that offer good two year nursing programs. Check out your local community college first and then go from there.
