In 1900 boys of all ages were taught in one-room schoolhouses. They were lectured to by the teacher and were not allowed to speak or do much of anything. If they got out of line, it would be the ruler to the palm if they were lucky. And the dunce cap!! Ahh the good old days :P Nowadays, corporal punishment is not allowed. Also methods of teaching are vastly different, a classroom is now more of an interactive environment with teaching allowing for all sorts of different learning styles. And girls go to school now too, they did before, but not as much as the boys, and in most places the students don't stop going to school when harvesting started.

before it was all out of textbooks...now there are field trips and hands on projects, powerpoints ...etc
