is there a certain kind to get or just bring the one i have in to home depot

Unplug or throw the circuit breaker for the fan. Then pull the bad switch and go to a home repair store like Home Depot or Lowe's and then you can be sure to get an identical replacement.

Forget about the old one. Any fifteen amp rated switch will do. If you want to control the speed of your fan from the switch then ask for a de-hummer or similar switch. It is made special for fan or fan/light combos. It will usually allow three speeds for the fan and three settings for the light. Have fun!

Best to take the broken one into Home Depot or any electric lighting store. That way you are sure to get exactly what you need.

if you mean the pull cord switch, take to old one to diy store. If the one on the wall a fixed switch then just the same as the one you taken out ... easy.... guid luck.....

Just take the one you have to Home Depot. That way they can match up color and type.
