Gandhi is the best example there is. He led his people through strikes and peaceful rallies. Much different from one of today's leaders who led a non provoked war, occupying a sovereign nation. That "War for Freedom" has killed thousands of his own people and close to one million of "freed" men, women and children....and we didn't even get a WMD postcard!

Ghandi! Dr. Martin Luther King (although, is was for equality of a people not a country). Both men need no description, their legacies are known the world over.

Mahatma Gandhi. He started hunger strikes and spoke of peace and religion. His tactics inspired Martin Luther King Jr to do the same in his civil rights movement.

there isn't one, people say ghandi, but i guarentee the british wouldn't have folded if it wasn't for the british equiped indian army that was backing him.

and later india marched in portugese owned goa by force to annex that also.

and as for mandela, don't forget what he was in jail for, terrorism charges, he led a group that killed many innocent civilians (they are all guilty) as he stated though.
