Most of the major brands work with any computer AND any operating system. The only question is: Do you need a wireless router?

If so, 802.11G is the minimum for most people.

BTW, once installed, you can turn off the Windows firewall and / or Norton, Zone Alarm, etc., you shouldn't need them. Routers are excellent firewalls.

you can either use a regular or wireless router. the wireless one will allow you to use the Internet anywhere in your house without having to physically hook it up to it. But make sure you network is secure so no one will tap onto your network and the nest thing you know, you have huge charges on your bill because of bandwidth. I know this is a lot of info but the customer service of the router you buy will walk you through it.
The regular router will be physically connected to you computer with an Ethernet cord, which looks like a phone cord but it is a little wider.
Hope this helps!!!
Good luck

Routers work independently of the computer. Your computer just needs a LAN/network card or WiFi card.

Any router or wireless router would work.
