I think it is a bit of both. I believe that they are born with atributes that make them more likely to become a deep thinker. It is then the world that confuses them and that they find need to make order of what they find the most useful. I was born with a drive to learn, but to be a deep thinker you have to find something that challenges you.

whoa tha'ts sooooooo deep. It's only a deep question if people are actually interested or inspired by the thought or in hearing the answer, and I for one am not interested.
