i am using a laptop for a window display for slideshows from powerpoint. i managed to shut the screen off once with out disruption. I can't figure out how i did it. HELP!

maybe u just closed the laptop. the screen usually goes off that way.

I don't completely understand what you are asking but I think you were using an external monitor or projector and turned off the monitor on your laptop.
If that is the case attach an external monitor to your laptop then set the laptop monitor as the primary monitor.

there can be a button what is pushed down triggered by the laptops screen when you close it. perhaps you just pressed the button.
