How do you clear a port on a laptop?

I was attempting to hot sync my Palm Treo 680 when I got a message saying that the port was in use. The only thing pulled into that USB port was the Treo. So, I'm completely at a loss! Help!

Go to your device manager and see what is up. you may have something in that port and just not know it.

make sure the hot sync listed on your treo is the cable/cradle and not something else my 650 did the same thing
