i'm a student at a university.
since i live in the dorms, i have to use the schools internet connection, which apparently has some sort of firewall.
[i'm not too tech savvy.]
this firewall is keeping me from downloading [from LimeWire/FrostWire] and viewing/listening to things online [mostly from sites like YouTube].
needless to say, this is driving me crazy.

how can i get around the firewall, so i can download?

Probably not easily. Obviously it is against the policy of your school to use those types of services, which is why they filter them out.

You might be able to find a proxy that would allow you to go around their firewall, but mostly likely the hole would soon be plugged, and you may find yourself in trouble.

The University owns their network, learn to live by the rules.

You could always use the free dial up service that comes with your sbcglobal account.

If your not Tech Savvy. Give up!! I would not try and download somthing illegal from limewire anyway. And also breaking through a college server firewall. Way too many federal offenses. If you do try. Atleast pick up a wireless signal from an off campus area with a hidden IP. So they can not track that your a student. If they catch you im sure they'll boot you from school. Good Luck

It is probably not a firewall, its probably a block setup specifically for limewire, etc. If you must download illegal music, steal WIFI from a hotel or somewhere else.

Have you ever heard of ruckus music? www.ruckus.com - free for college students and legal.

That's why universities use prohibitive firewalls. They don't want their butts sued off.

Try setting up LogMeIn (free) on your home computer. Then, you can browse (with IE or Firefox) to your home PC, and download there.

You will have to go home to copy the downloaded files to CD, etc. to put on your school computer.

you will have to contact the person who deals with it, otherwise you hack into it and change it.
