I always like to start off with a hand-spanking - the skin-on-skin contact feels so sexy, and a hand-spanked bottom blushes so prettily. But once I've got those sweet soft cheeks all rosy and well warmed up, I'll happily go on to a leather paddle, or a hairbrush, or - yes, why not? - a wooden spoon.
