#1-DONATE.
Donate things you have not worn in years, have not worn in months and cannot fit. It makes no sense to hold onto things if they create a clutter.

#2- Go by the "Three month" rule
If you have found something that you said three months ago, "I will hold onto it" and have not used it by now, throw it away or donate it. Keeping it will just create a clutter.

#3- Create a bin/shelf for shoes in closet

#4- Hooks are great. It prevents anything from being on the floor and it forces you to hold only so much on one hook. Eventually you will have to clean it cause you wont have any space!

#5-Go through your bedroom shelves and dressers at least once a month to remove the culprit of clutter-PAPER! Paper seems to follow us everywhere we go and it builds up very quickly. For only 15 minutes, clean your dresser every weekend. For the month, it will definately take longer than 15 minutes

#5- If you don't have one get one... A HEPA filter Vacuume.
I have a dirt devil one and its great. Vacuume the corners, yes all of those corners behind dressers and shelves. You will find that your room will even smell different.

Hope that these tips are helpful!

If you are looking for long term solutions and not just a spring cleaning "fix", you need to change your lifestyle completely. Simple things like throwing away junk mail as soon as you walk in the door, throw newspapers away nightly, throw or give away any clothing you have not warn in 6 months, throw or give away any appliance you haven't used in 6 months, get clear shoe boxes and organize all shoes, put two bars in the closet to hold double the amount of clothing. I read that you should completely clean off an area, and then go back and only put what is absolutely necessary back in place, this goes for counters, dressers, chests, sinks, nightstands, and the general rule is 3 items.
