i've thought about the war in iraq and israel, but thats really broad. i also thought about drinking and driving and global warming, but im sure lots of other people already are talking on these topics.

choose a topic that you are passionate about. make it something that you are well versed in. people will be much more engaged if they know that you are knowledgeable and sincere about the subject.also, if there is to be a question and answer period after the speech, try to imagine some of the dissenting opinions and prepare some responses.
green building practices are one topic that comes to mind.
for instance, if i buy "green" lumber from renewable sources, and it has to be shipped half way around the world, is it really green?

1. global warming and whats its doing
2.preventing teen drug and alcohol abuse
3.drinking age laws
4. whether or not people should be able to smoke in public places.
thats all i can think of.
