we are with tiscali and on a package with "no download limit" but they keep capping the speed as i am aparently abusing their fair useage policy when i download a few hundred MB overnight

can anyone recommend a cheap isp with NO download limits?

thanks

Hello,

(ANS) You cannot have the cake & eat it too?? There is No! such thing as a cheap unlimited (uncapped) broadband service. Why? because ALL ISP's here in the UK dont see it as cost effective for them, (they cannot make a profit from offering this kind of a service).

ALL UK ISP's buy bandwidth or capacity from BT who privide the internet & telecoms infrastructure (Pipes, routers, switches, RAS servers, phone exchanges, DSLAMS,etc, etc) BT charge the ISP's for data transfered or bandwidth actually used by the customer.

**If you can find an ISP here in the UK that REALLY offer completely uncapped, unthrottled, 100% totally no download limits then my guess is you wont be able to afford it. I would expect the cost of that kind of service would be pretty high. I would expect around £50-£60+ per month for that sort of service.

**Most UK ISP's have cap's in some form, fair useage policies, network management as in Tiscali, or bandwidth throttling like PlusNet F9,etc. I think caps or limits are fair enough. I respect that completely as its a fair way to treat everyone.

**Remember ADSL broadband is a shared (contended) service so one persons 10GB download is another network users slowdown as a consquence. The reason ADSL is so affordable to home users IS because its a shared service.

if your broadband provider says which you have infinite bandwidth, you could obtain and upload as lots information as you like utilising the relationship, and there is no factor at which you will "run out". it incredibly is the quick answer. (Sky Broadband furnish a bandwidth-constrained equipment which basically helps 40GB consistent with month referred to as Mid AND an infinite equipment referred to as Max) The long answer is that, particular, you would be allowed to obtain as much as you like, yet provided that your host thinks which you're staying interior of a 'life like' decrease. (Your host will in all possibility have a honest utilization coverage) Now, what's that 'life like' decrease? positioned it this style, in case you host a internet site on your place connection and it reaches the front web site of Digg, your ISP can't be chuffed. in case you utilize it for huge P2P downloads many times, likewise. in case you utilize your connection for straightforward surfing and downloading some information, you would be ok. do no longer hesitate to ask your ISP while you're uncertain what they define as 'life like'.
