depends what it says in your contract

It depends on your position in the work place and the company policy. I live in Nevada ... the "right to work" state .. If we get canned during our probabtionary period, they don't have to tell us why. Sux, I know, but with what I do for my company, if I put in 2 weeks notice, they may very well tell me just to take a 2 week paid vacation because of my position.

Agree with previous postings. The important thing is whether your boss is paying you for finishing up early. If he is paying you for your period of notice, but you do not need to work - you are on a winner!!

Alternatively, if you are getting to finish up early but he not paying you for it - check your contract. You should normally be allowed to work your notice and get paid.

Are they going to give you a good reference? If not, then just quit w/o notice. If you value the relationship, then give adequate notice.

Some companies this is standard practice. You should however be paid for your notice period.
