I don't really understand what the movie is about, other than everyone is up in arms because she is abused or raped? But she IS an actress, right? I'm sure the child advocate person on set gives her all the information and what the scene will be involving. There are many young women/girls who are trained in acting and can handle such roles. It should be about the individual and if she is ready for it.
Jena Malone was around 10/11 when she made Bastard Out of Carolina where there is a graphic rape scene involving her and her step-father.
Linda Blair was a pre-teen when she made The Exorcist and she didn't have any problems with the scary and mature themes involved.
Stop putting your own views and beliefs in the way of creativity and the Arts. Let the right people help these actresses along and their families and themselves decide if it's appropriate for them to do so.

First off, Fanning's parents have control of what project she does. Dakota and her parents have no problem with the script, why should you?

Second it is only a movie, not real life. That means Dakota Fanning will not actually be raped or abused on the set, just like Jodi Foster wasn't on the set of "The Accused."

Finally, do you think sticking your head in the ground is the correct reaction? Life is sometimes very painful and ugly. What the studio, the Fannings and everybody else involved is hoping to do is raise awareness that such things go on and need to be stopped. Sadly, there are children in real life younger than Dakota who are being sexually abused. Having her play the part will make the message more startling and bring the media's attention. If one person (adult or child) is saved from the horror of being abused, thanks to the action of a person who sees the movie and recognizes the situations, then the movie's value to society outstrips the box office figures.
