Garcia is the biggest missing piece for the buccaneers. They had a great wideout, a good running back, an experienced (and pretty good) fullback, a decent line on both sides, and a halfway decent secondary/linebacking crew. They had no quarterback. Sims was a joke even when he was healthy, Gradkowski showed some promise but not enough to be the leader for a team that was poised for a turnaround. With Garcia and Calvin Johnson (assuming they do take him), watch for the Bucs to be the sleeper team (similar to the Saints of this year) in 2007-2008.

Tampa was 4 and 12 last season because their starting quarterback ruptured a spleen a few games into the season. Their back up was a rookie from Toledo. Needless to say a lot of teams aren't going to do well in that kind of situation.

Jeff Garcia wanted to go to a team where he would be able to start at QB. The last time the Buccaneers pulled a veteran QB off free agency they won the Super Bowl that next season. With Chris Simms healthy they went to the playoffs the year before last. Plus Garcia has a good relationship with Gruden and twice before almost went to Tampa. And with the teams ahead of them in the NFL Draft, there is a very very good chance that they'll end up with WR Calvin Johnson. Between Johnson and Garcia that could really make or break their team.

For the Bucs it's a win/win situation. A little competition goes a long way when you know that if you screw up there's someone on the sidelines that will step in. Plus you get a veteran QB to help develop your younger QB's.

I thought Jeff Garcia would have better off in Chicago since Rex Grossman was the main reason why the Bears lost the Super Bowl. Da Bears have what it takes to make the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl again. What's holding them back is a lousy QB. None of the QBs Chicago has is worth a darn. Brian Griese has been bounced around the league ever since he left Michigan and Kyle Orten is a 2nd string QB at best. Why Tampa Bay I have no idea. I guess he thought he would have a better chance in becoming a starter but Jon Gruden said that Chris Simms is his guy despite missing most of the season because the ruptered spleen he suffering last year.

your right, garcia did want to go to a winning team, but i think the tampa bay bucs will be good for him. More than a good team, he wanted to start, although he may not have the starting job right away, chriss simms is very inconsitent and jake plummer who may be going to the bucs, is also inconsistent this past season. chances are, by the time the 07-08 season starts, the bucs will have Jeff Garcia at the starting lineup. Bucs will probably get a good reciver to compliment their WR they already have. They should def. improve this season and be on their way back to the playoffs.

Jon Gruden runs a west coast offense in which Garcia definately excelled in back with San Francisco. Plus, Tampa now has rights to Jake Plummer if he doesn't retire - so the Bucs could have a pretty good depth chart for the QB spot.

Tampa had a bad season last year but with garica they could definently put together a winning season next year because they have some very good players. But they will have to make a few more signings and use there draft picks really well.

Tampa needs a QB after their deal with Denver fell through.

For those who do not know, Jake Plummer retired because he was being traded to tampa (Denver would get a fourth round pick) and he did not want to have to compete for a starting job.

But i did not know Garcia went to Tampa, he was excellent in Philly

Jeff Garcia could have considered to a team that pays good salary. Or he changed his mind, because he was also interested in Oakland Raiders.

they will do well next year, Jeff fits the kind of offensive scheme that Gruden will use...though only 4-12 last year, look for TB to improve, possibly into the playoffs...

Jeff needed to be with a team that would make him the starting QB, without question.
