Whatever you define as 'work'-- it may not just be your occupation -- does it take re-wiring to get pleasure from work as a masochist, or are people talking about something else when they say "I love my job" (aren't you kidding yourself)?

I didn't say all people don't love work, but I'm wondering whther the ones that really do are masochists. If you have a job that's easy and rewarding, then you may be quibbling on the definition of 'work'.

"I love my job! comparative to ditch-digging"
is like saying you prefer a punch to the stomach from one to the face.

But coming to love punches to the stomach seems pathological.

Yes, yes....

Picking daisys, or lording over people, or doing effortless tasks for unjustifiable wages I would not consider work.

Work IS a challenge, and while some seek out that challenge, not for money, but for the sake of being-challenged, I can't help but think they also love, not achievement, but pain.

Some people like challanges, or pick a job they really enjoy doing and are passionate about. It may not be the material compensation, but the internal rewards, e.g. helping other people, make up for it.

It seems to me that you really don't like your work. It doesn't follow that everyone else hates their own jobs, or think their jobs are "painful." You have to get beyond your own perspective at present and see how enjoying a job is possible. Some people I've talked to don't even feel like they're working, they enjoy their jobs so much.

I am going to just speak for myself. No I do not consider being a masochist because I love my job. I only love my job because there is nothing left to love. Families don't stay together anymore, friends betray friends etc etc. Your job can do the same. I can get fired. But, my job does distract me.

Yes, at least to a certain point...
I like my work, but that is only because I know there are many jobs that I wouldn't like to do. Still, it is WORK, and it takes my freedom away of doing my own things and spending my time the way I want to. The fact that I HAVE to work, I think I can never get used to that.

Some jobs can be very self-rewarding, that doesn't mean you are a masochist. You are there for 40 hrs per week, you better like it somewhat.
