I don't know why...
I find them rather appealing the way their legs move...
But that's just me, maybe it is the movement of the legs that scares most people...

They have a knack for appearing when you least expect it! They have a scary number of legs and have you seen the way they walk across carpet?they make themselves go all big and raised up and then they run into a corner where its dark so you cant find them!

My worst run - ins with spiders are:
1.I was just getting ready for a nice bath when the most disgusting big black spider comes shooting under the door then into my bath mat...tried killing it then but it jumped out and ran into the shower curtain, knocked it back onto the floor and turned it into a pancake...to my knowledge it is still there to this day as I will not remove it!
2.Years ago when I was bout 8 my gran thought she had a ball of thread dangling off her skirt so flicked it off and it landed on me.It then uncurled and ran down my leg and it turned out it was a gross spider!

Well it might be all the scuttling legs, the fact that some spiders are poisonous, or the idea of feeling a spider walk across your skin with it's hairy legs. But then, I'm just guessing!! (Not scared of spiders) :)

I like them

I don't know why people are afraid here, when the ones in the UK are harmless. I could understand if there were venomous ones around though.

Mind you there are some schools of psychology that believe a fear of spiders is subconciously linked to a fear of pubic hair!

hello!!!! you ever seen what a spider looks like??? if so no wonder!! personally i would never trust anything that had less than 2 legs, more than 4 legs or has a body with no bones and can get anywhere, including in your mouth while you are asleep. plus did you ever hear about the woman who had a spider crawl into her ear whilest it was pregnant, she became deaf and suffered from brain damage, because it gave birth inside her head - spooky stuff, but its 100% true

Why are most people afraid of anything?. Its bred into them by their parents. I had snakes once and some friends came round for a visit. Their two kids wanted to see a corn snake up close and out of the vivarium. The parents said it was ok to show them but, as I took the snake out and one of the kids went to stroke it...both parents stepped back in fear and both kids immediately did the same.!! They were not allowed to learn that this perfectly harmless snake was just that!!.

probably `cos they`re so effing horrible, scuttling around being all hairy and leggity. I actually had one hiss at me last year in my own house, and the amount of times they`ve crawled into my bed and bit me is beyond counting.

im terrified of them, a partly inherited fear from my mum but its all the legs, the way they move, and they go so fast, and you eat them in your sleep! erghhhhhhhh, creeping me out talking about it. they can bite also. i just dont like anything with more legs than me, or winged creatures, they always seam to chase me.

i dont like them for the simple fact that im not good at identifying them and i dont know which ones are harmless and which ones arent, but i dont kill them because they eat a lot of harmful bugs... so i catch them and let them go outside if theyre in my way...the big hairy ones i might squash...lol
